2021 Annual Report Shows Unprecedented Progress

by | May 18, 2022

Our 2021 Annual Report is now available! 2021 was a year of continued exponential growth in our impact despite challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic in our Partner Countries.

Across our global programs, we saw a 159% increase in victims removed from exploitation and a 233% increase in human trafficking convictions

In Uganda, our partners reached significant milestones including the first life sentence for a convicted child trafficker. Our team also created an app for prosecutors and investigators to share case data from their phones, making it easier for them to collaborate to stop suspected traffickers. We also welcomed a new embedded expert to join our team within the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Uganda.

In Belize, the government reached an exciting achievement by convicting the first two people under the country’s Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Act of 2013. The government also added new officers to the specialized anti-trafficking investigative unit in Belize. The new investigators were trained by our experts on effective investigative techniques, preparing for trials, and ensuring survivors have access to necessary services.

In the United States, we released our most comprehensive Federal Human Trafficking Report yet. The Report covered every federal criminal human trafficking prosecution between 2000 and 2020.
