Building Regional Momentum: HTI Participates in Human Trafficking in the Carolinas Conference

by | Aug 5, 2025

Last week, the Human Trafficking Institute had the privilege of participating in the Human Trafficking in the Carolinas Conference—an event that brought together key leaders from across the region to strengthen the collective response to human trafficking.

Co-hosted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office and the North Carolina Human Trafficking Commission, the conference served as a powerful platform to raise awareness, share best practices, and align efforts to meet the complex needs of victims and survivors.

The gathering included law enforcement agencies, survivor leaders, service providers, prosecutors, and Assistant Attorneys General from both South Carolina and Georgia. Their shared focus: improving the region’s ability to identify, investigate, and prosecute human trafficking cases while ensuring that survivors receive the support and justice they deserve.

HTI’s Director of U.S. Programs, Lindsey Lane, was honored to lead a training for attendees focused on proactive strategies for law enforcement and prosecutors. Her session emphasized practical, trauma-informed approaches to building stronger investigations and successful prosecutions that hold traffickers accountable and disrupt exploitation at its source.

We are especially grateful to the Office of South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, the North Carolina Human Trafficking Commission, and all of the participating organizations for their leadership and commitment to regional collaboration. Events like this underscore the critical importance of partnerships in the fight against human trafficking—and we’re proud to stand alongside these leaders in driving real, systemic change.
