In Minnesota, one new criminal human trafficking case was filed in federal court in 2021. Ten defendants were convicted. 100 percent (2) of new defendants were charged with sex trafficking, and 0 percent (0) were charged with forced labor. Minnesota federal court ordered nine of ten convicted criminal human trafficking defendants to pay restitution to their victim(s) in 2021. This is similar to 2020, when federal court ordered eight of nine convicted Minnesota human trafficking defendants to pay restitution.
